When to See a Doctor for Pink Eye

Seek medical attention if your pink eye symptoms worsen or don’t improve within a week of starting home treatment. This is especially important for children.

Severe Symptoms Requiring Immediate Medical Attention

Go to the doctor immediately if you experience: severe eye pain, vision changes (blurred vision, decreased vision), significant light sensitivity (photophobia), or a fever alongside your pink eye. Pus or thick discharge also warrants prompt attention.

Situations Requiring Doctor’s Visit

Schedule an appointment if you have pink eye and any of the following: suspect a contact lens-related infection, have diabetes or another immune-compromising condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or work in a setting where eye infections could spread easily. Additionally, if the affected eye feels noticeably different from the unaffected eye, contact your physician.

Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent complications. Don’t hesitate to contact your healthcare provider with any concerns.
