Ciprodex contains two active ingredients: ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic, and dexamethasone, a steroid. Ciprofloxacin fights bacterial infections, while dexamethasone reduces inflammation and pain. This combination effectively treats bacterial outer ear infections.
Ciprofloxacin targets a wide range of bacteria commonly causing ear infections. Dexamethasone helps alleviate swelling and discomfort, speeding up recovery. The combination ensures both infection control and symptom relief.
Use Ciprodex as directed by your doctor. Typically, you instill three drops into the affected ear twice daily. Gently pull your earlobe upward and backward to straighten the ear canal before administering the drops. Lie on your side for a few minutes after application to allow the medication to spread effectively.
Important Note: Always follow your physician’s instructions regarding dosage and duration of treatment. Do not use Ciprodex for longer than prescribed, even if symptoms improve. This prevents the development of resistant bacteria and ensures complete healing.
Possible Side Effects: Although generally safe, Ciprodex can cause mild side effects such as temporary burning, itching, or a slight stinging sensation. More serious side effects are rare. Consult your doctor if you experience any unusual reactions.
Contraindications: Ciprodex is not suitable for everyone. Inform your doctor about any allergies or existing medical conditions before using it. Do not use it if you have a perforated eardrum.
